Ten Life Hacks to be a Happier Mom
Life is hectic. Trying to fit in everything that needs to be done is a constant challenge. Add young children to that mix and it can feel overwhelming. We are all looking for ways to be a better mom.
Some moms act as if they have everything under control. They breeze through life with a smile on their face. How do they do this?
Mom Hacks to Help you be a Happier Mom:
1. Ask for help
There is no shame in admitting you can't do it all. Ask your friends and family to help. You might be surprised how many are of them are more than happy to help in any way they can.
2. Get outside
No one wants to feel like they are stuck in one place especially if that place is their home. A change of scenery can lift any mood. Stroll around the neighborhood or go to the park.
3. Take care of yourself, first
Get enough sleep, even if this means going to bed earlier than you normally would. Eat well and stay away from processed food and too much sugar. I know it sounds boring but it really will help with your mood and energy levels.
4. Exercise
I'm not suggesting you join a gym unless you want to, but a few minutes every day of moderate exercise will increase your stamina and energy levels. Don't have time? Try a power walk while pushing the stroller. Or run up and down your stairs for ten minutes. Whatever you do, build it into your daily routine.
5. Take a time-out
We all love our children more than life itself but, if we're honest, we would all also like some time away from them every now and then. This could be time alone to read a book, take a bubble bath, or just sit in quiet contemplation. Make sure you spend quality time with your 'other half' so you don't forget why you fell in love in the first place. Or maybe just treat yourself with a bunch of flowers, a slice of cake or some other indulgence.
6. Help others
You've heard the saying, 'giving is better than receiving.' Offer to help someone whether they are a new mom, a neighbor, or a friend. You will feel pretty good if you can make their life a little easier and they will very much appreciate your kindness.
7. Appreciate what you have
It's easy to see what others have and feel a little jealous. Whenever this happens redirect your thoughts to what you have and realize how lucky you are. Look into the eyes of your child, smell their hair, listen to them laugh.
8. Look for like-minded friends
Surround yourself with happy moms and you too will be a happy mom. You will feel their energy and enthusiasm for life and you can all learn from each other.
9. Be consistent
Well behaved children are a pleasure to be around. Children thrive in a structured environment. Set boundaries and stick to them. Reward them rather than punish them. But most of all, remember to have fun.
10. Plan
Don't try and wing it through the day. Plan your activities just like a teacher plans theirs. This includes what everyone will eat, when and how you will get your chores done, and what you will do for fun. The better planned your day is the less chaotic it will feel.
